The Sleeper Shark

At Localture, The Sleeper Sharks takes you to Fulidhoo in Vaavu Atoll, a local island in the Maldives renowned for its nurse shark encounters. Nurse sharks are one of the Maldives’ most recognisable sharks, and Vaavu Atoll is one of the places where divers can regularly encounter them in their natural environment. The atoll’s channels, reefs and deep waters create an environment rich in marine life, bringing these calm and fascinating sharks into the waters around the island. Fulidhoo gives us access to some of Vaavu Atoll’s most exciting dive sites, including the famous Alimatha night dive, where large aggregations of nurse sharks and stingrays can be encountered. Diving here offers the chance to experience these sharks in a completely different setting after dark, as they move through the clear waters around the reef. And while the nurse sharks are the main attraction, they are far from the only ones. Vaavu Atoll is also known for encounters with grey reef sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, turtles, stingrays and large schools of fish.
