Devils of the Sea

At Localture, Devils of the Sea takes you to Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll, where reef manta rays gather in one of the Maldives’ most extraordinary marine environments. Hanifaru Bay is shaped by the movement of the ocean. During the manta season, currents bring nutrient-rich water into the bay, creating feeding conditions that can attract large numbers of manta rays. It is this natural gathering that has made Hanifaru famous among divers, snorkellers and marine enthusiasts around the world. Being in the water here is an experience of its own. Mantas can glide overhead, circle through the bay and pass within close range as they move naturally through the water. No two visits are quite the same, with the number of mantas, their behaviour and the conditions changing from day to day. Beyond Hanifaru Bay, the surrounding waters of Baa Atoll offer a different side of the experience. Diving at sites such as Dhonfanu Thila, Nelivaru Haa and Dharavandhoo Corner brings the chance to encounter reef sharks, turtles, rays, schooling fish and other marine life.
